NORMANTON KNIGHTS Vs WEST BOWLING
The Knights entertained West Bowling in their first league fixture of the season. Normanton paid the price for a slow and sloppy opening period and soon found themselves 16-0 down and looking like they could find themselves on the wrong end of a thrashing. However and to their credit, the Knights fought back well with a try for debut centre Shaun Ordish. Normanton had
little luck for the remainder of the first half and were left scratching their heads after second row Ash Hill, full back Tom Joyce and Ordish all had tries disallowed. The half time score was 16-4. Normanton hit top form
at the beginning of the second half and put on an excellent display of powerful running, entertaining attacking play and very physical defence.Their efforts were rewarded when second row Brad Thornton powered over after a strong run and excellent support play. This brought the score back to 16-10. At this point Normanton were all over their opposition who in
fairness looked like a beaten side. An enterprising attack down the left hand side saw scrum half Jake Tyson dummy his way over the line for a converted try bringing the scores level. This was to be the Knights last
score and the effort the lads put into pulling themselves back into the game took its toll with Bowling ending the stronger running in a converted try and tagging on two penalties, the final score a flattering 16-26 to the
visitors. Man of the match was loose forward Ash Haynes for an excellent all round display in second place was prop Aidan Fletcher, putting in some
strong hits in defence and running tirelessly with Shaun Ordish claiming third capping a fine debut at centre. Despite losing the Knights were encouraged by their performance and are looking forward to what could be a very good season
