NORMANTON v STANLEY

WAKEFIELD DISTRICT FINAL

Normanton Knights U15s ended their current season on a high despite going down 32-12 to Stanley Rangers .Lively hooker Jake Green dived over the whitewash for Knights first try with half back Joe Crossland slotting over the extras.Captain Brad Cook lead by example with strong defencive work from forwards Matty Sellers,Ben Martin,Danny Hamer, Callum Straw and Jamie Wilson. Good ball distribution between backs Jonny Carr,Tom Jordan,Josh Wilkes and Chris Marsh saw good yards been made throughout and with a better rub of the green Knights could have had more points on the board.However Knights did score the try of the match after a neat kick from scrum half Matty Robinson bounced just right for winger Jonny Dye to out pace the defence  and go full length of the pitch to score under the sticks with Joe crossland converting as the final whistle went.Knights coaches and parents are proud of what the kids have achieved and look forward to a highly successful season as U16s .

NORMANTON v HUDDERSFIELD ST JOSEPHS

Normanton Knights recorded a hard earned victory over Huddersfield ST Josephs. Knights Jamie Wilson opened the scoring forcing his way over under the sticks with Joe Crossland adding the conversion. St Josephs hit back crossing the whitewash themselves before Knights pulled away with Joe Crossland crossing the whitewash in the corner and Brad Cook ran 80 meters to score Knights next try. Joe Crossland added the extras to give Knights a 16-8 half time lead. Knights extended their lead early in the second half with tries to Callum Straw and Matty Sellers. Poor defensive work nearly cost Knights dear as St Josephs hit back with three tries of their own but the Knights hung on for the win.

NORMANTON 58 v BATLEY BOYS 6

Normanton Knights U15's scored 10 tries as they brushed aside Batley Boys to come away with a 58-6 victory. Knights were on top throughout with half back Joe Crossland leading the way with a 24 point haul from two tries and eight goals followed by speedy centre Tom Jordan who crossed for a hat-trick. Jonny Carr, Ben Martin, Callum Straw, Jonny Dye and Jamie Wilson all crossed the whitewash. Batley battled hard throughout but had no answer to the Knights pace and solid defence.

SHEFFIELD HILLSBOROUGH HAWKS v NORMANTON

Normanton Knights were at the wrong side of a 20-16 scoreline at Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks in a stop start affair. Knights started the better of the two teams and opened the scoring with a full length effort from Joe Crossland which he also converted. Knights then extended their lead after a lovely pass from Jake green on the blind side allowed Matty sellers to cross in the corner which Crossland failed convert before Sheffield hit back with two tries of their own to leave the score at 10-10 going into the half time break. Sheffield then took the lead in the second half for the first time in the match but Knights hit back as Joe Crossland sneaked over under the sticks for his second try of the match which he converted. Knights worked hard but were unable to cross the whitewash again and Sheffield hung on for the win.

NORMANTON 18 V METHLEY 16

Normanton Knights dug deep to take the spoils with an 18-16 victory against derby foes Methley. Methley struck first to take a 6-0 lead before lively hooker Jake Green crossed the whitewash with Joe Crossland converting to level the scores. Knights defended superbly but couldn't stop Methley crossing for their second try to take a 12-6 lead into the half time break.  Methley then extended their lead in the second half scoring an unconverted try. But knights who played the entire game with 12 men showed true team spirit as classy half back Joe Crossland scored two tries and converted them both in the last two minutes of the game to get the Knights well deserved victory.

WEST BOWLING v NORMANTON

Normanton Knights showed true team spirit as they produced their best performance of the season as they went down 8-6 to second place West Bowling. Knights had to re-shuffle after injury to pack man Danny Hamer forcing them to play the rest of the game with only 12 men. But knights dug deep to hold West Bowling to a 4-0 lead at the break. The Knights pack lead superbly by Brad Cook were on top throughout even though they were up against a much bigger pack. Knights defence was superb even though West Bowling extended their lead to 8-0 midway through the second half. Matty Sellers hit back for the Knights when he forced his way over in the corner after some outstanding attacking play. Joe Crossland added a fantastic touchline conversion to leave them trailing by two. However the Knights put West Bowling under immense pressure in the last 10 minutes but they were unable to sneak the match winning try. 

SLAITHWAITE 20 v NORMANTON 20

Knights worked hard throughout as they came away from Slaithwaite with a 20-20 draw in a game played in poor conditions. Knights held onto a narrow 6-8 lead at the break after Tom Jordan and Matty Robinson crossed the whitewash. Callum Straw and Brad Cook with two Joe Crossland conversions extended knights lead but unfortunately the lack of fresh legs took its toll on the knights allowing Slaithwaite to snatch the draw.

METHLEY 18 V NORMANTON 14

Normanton Knights returned to action at Methley but were unlucky to finish on the wrong side of an 18-14 scoreline after a couple of decisions went against them. In the first half Knights played some good open rugby to race into a 10 - 0 lead through tries to Joe Crossland and Ben Martin with Joe Crossland adding a conversion. The second half saw Methley come back strongly into the game scoring three tries to take the points. Callum Straw scored Knights only try of the second half.

 

SUNDAY 12th DECEMBER

HUNSLET WARRIORS 38 V NORMANTON KNIGHTS 6

Knights U15's return to action after the snow wiped out the programme saw them slump to a disappointing 38-6 defeat at Hunslet Warriors. Warriors got off to a flying start and raced into a 22-0 half time lead. Chris Marsh was unlucky to have a try ruled out  just after half time . In the last 10 minutes of the game the knights started to show what they can do and good attacking play saw Liam Blockley cross for a try in the corner with Joe Crossland converting from the touch line. Danny Hamer had a strong game on his debut for the Knights.

NORMANTON KNIGHTS 16 v STANLEY RANGERS 50

Normanton Knights U15s went down 50-16 to league leaders Stanley Rangers a scoreline which doesn't represent the effort the Knights put into the game.Liam Blockley crossed for two first half tries with Joe Crossland adding one conversion to leave Knights trailing 30-10 at the break.Knights scored first in the second half through Joe Crossland with him also adding the two.Before knights injury jinx struck again as they lost loose forward Tom Jordan and stand off Joe Crossland.Lively hooker Jake Green caused Rangers plenty of problems but they were unable to cross the whitewash again .Captain Brad Cook lead from the front  working hard in defence and attack earning himself the man of the match award.

SUNDAY 14th NOVEMBER

NORMANTON KNIGHTS 20 v CRIGGLESTONE AB 12

Normanton Knights U15's recorded a superb 20-12 victory over local rivals Crigglestone All Blacks. Knights dominated possession with lively hooker Jake Green crossing the whitewash for the first try of the match with Joe Crossland converting. Liam Blockley then out paced the defence to score in the corner which Joe Crossland was unable to convert making it 10-0 at the break. Knights increased their lead after Joe Crossland slotted over a penalty followed by Jake Green's second try and another Joe Crossland conversion to see them 20-0 up going into the last quarter. Two quick tries and conversions to Crigglestone saw them pull themselves back into the game but strong defence by Knights forcing Crigglestone into errors saw them hang on for a well deserved victory. Hard working captain Brad Cook earned himself the man of the match award.

Sunday 7th November

CASTLEFORD PANTHERS  V NORMANTON KNIGHTS

Normanton Knights U15's gave a much improved display to come away from Castleford Panthers with a 27-16 victory. Knights raced into a 14-0 lead with man of the match Liam Blockley crossing the whitewash twice and Tom Jordan also touched down. Panthers scored right on half time to leave Knights 14-4 to the good at the break. Knights were slow out of the blocks in the second half and two tries to Panthers saw Knights trailing 16-14.  However Knights weren't to be beaten as good handling and support play between Liam Blockley and Joe Crossland saw two further tries to Joe Crossland. Joe Crossland then slotted over a drop goal to seal a 27-16 victory. Liam Blockley slotted over 3 conversions to add to his points tally. 

 

NORMANTON KNIGHTS 18 v HUNSLET WARRIORS 32

BARLA YORKSHIRE COUNTY CUP ROUND 2

Normanton Knights U15's bowed out of the Barla Yorkshire cup going down 32-18 to Hunslet Warriors. Poor defence in the first half cost them dear as they trailed 20-0 at the break. Their cause wasn't helped when influential half back Robbie Ward suffered a broken ankle in the first 5 minutes. Knights hit back in the second half scoring tries through Joe Crossland, Brad Cook and a full length effort from Tom Jordan. Joe Crossland converted all three to get themselves back into the game. But it wasn't to be their day as Hunslet scored two converted tries to send them into the next round.

Sunday 17th October

BARLA Yorkshire County Cup Rnd 1

Normanton Knights 34 v Oulton Vikings 6

Knights U15s returned to winning ways beating Oulton Vikings 34-6 which also earned them a place in the second round of the Barla Yorkshire Cup .Knights were slow out of the blocks in an error ridden first half with their only points of the half coming from tries to Jake Green and Joe Crossland.Knights were given a wake up call after an interception by Oultons lively  hooker a good chase from Joe Crossland and Robbie Ward resulted in him been halted just short of the line.The second half saw Knights find their scoring touch with Jonny Dye opening the scoring a good passage of play resulted in tries for Liam Dawson and Tom Jordan.Brad Cook was the next to cross the whitewash after a good break.Joe Crossland rounded off Knights scoring after he followed up his own kick and chase,he also added three conversions to his points tally.Oulton were rewarded for their hard work with a converted try.A strong debut by hard working forward Jamie Wilson earned him the Man of Match award.

Sunday 10th October

Normanton Knights v Castleford Lock Lane

A slow start to the game contributed to Knights falling to a 34-16 defeat at the hands of Castleford Lock Lane.Jonny Carr crossed for Knights only try of the first half having another ruled out for a forward pass .Joe Crossland added the conversion to leave them trailing 6-22 at the break.Knights stepped up a gear in the second half with Joe Crossland crossing the whitewash twice he also added another conversion. With better ball  control Knights could have pushed Lock Lane all the way however it wasnt ment to be as Lock Lane sealed the win with two late tries.

Sunday 3rd October

Stanley Rangers v Normanton Knights

An injury hit Knights U15s crashed to a disappointing  46-0 defeat  at Stanley Rangers .Knights started positively and   even though they put Rangers under presssure they were unable to convert it to points.More injuries to key players reduced Knights to 12 men Brad Cook worked hard in defence while Robbie Ward and Liam Blockley tried hard to get the Knights over the try line

York Acorn v Normanton Knights

Normanton Knights u15's battled hard throughout but found themselves on the wrong end of a 32-8 score line against York Acorn. Knights who were up against it after being starved of possession in the opening quarter found themselves trailing 18-4 at the break after a good passage of play saw Tom Jordan cross the white wash. The second half saw York extend there lead. Knights had chances but poor ball handling cost them dear at times. Jonny Carr socred a conselation try after he latched onto a high kick from Robbie ward. Joe Crossland was awarded man of the match while Liam Dawson made an encouraging debut game.
